"Think Round" Photo Challenge

First Name Basis, Spherical Concepts and Hussian School of Art team up for an innovative real-world photography challenge.

Spherical Concepts is a world leader in handmade clear acrylic globes and spheres based in Frazer, PA. They became part of the Herff Jones organization (famous for yearbooks and class rings) a couple of years ago. The company is working with First Name Basis on a next-genereration multi-channel marketing program to energize sales of their custom manufactured products. Each wave of the campaign features a personalized full-color postcard and companion email sent to more than 1,200 professionals specializing in the design and production of point-of-sale displays, trade show exhibits and retail merchandising installations.

The cards and corresponding personalized web sites include photographs of a custom globe or sphere created by Spherical Concepts. These are highly demanding and technically challenging shots, due to the highly reflective spherical surface of the product. The challenge is on for a student photographer to create a winning product shot. The first place photos will be included in the printed direct mail campaign designed by Hussian alumnus and First Name Basis Creative Director Michael Ventresca, with campaign samples and an online photo credit. The winner will also receive a FREE Spherical Concepts world globe.

Curved reflective surfaces are among the hardest to light and photograph, providing an exceptional learning experience for a talented photographer.
